Melanie McKay has a background in newspaper journalism and communication in the public sector. Her role at North Shore City Council involved media liaison and issues management, project support and promotion, community relations and political services.
For Star Public Relations Melanie has worked on the Sea+City project, the revitalisation of Wynyard Quarter – the old Tank Farm - on Auckland’s waterfront. It involves both public and private partners, includes extensive public engagement and media relations.
Melanie also works with Vector Arena, the entertainment hub of the Pacific, in media and crisis management, was seconded for six months to Massey University’s College of Business external relations, and works in reputation management for Staples Rodway, New Zealand’s leading independent mid-tier accounting firm.
Melanie’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Politics, and a Graduate Diploma in Journalism. Melanie has also gained her Accredited in Public Relations (APR) qualification for senior practitioners from the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand.
